A good example of a perfectly done stop motion animation I will be looking at is Baby Inside by Evian. This was done based around on children's flipbooks, using lots of different t-shirts with babies in different poses.
In the stop animation video, lots of men and women are wearing a t-shirt printed with babys in different poses. They go along with the beat of the soundtrack in the background with a different printed t-shirt being changed along with the beat. This creates an illusion of movement that the babies are actually moving and dancing. The peoples head act as the babies head. This is very effective as the can switch around the babies positions that can't be possibly done in real life. The advert together took 6 months to get the final product. This is because it included lots of pre planning. There is lots going on inside the frames as the babies move, dance and jump. And at some points of the advert there was more than one baby in the frame. This was very successful advert as it's very creative and comical. It uses the same principles as all other current stop-motion animation. Frames per second varies a lot through out this advert as the frames are moving to the beat of the music.
Music Videos
Stop motion animation is also used with in music videos. This shows how much fun you can have with stop motion. It is in the format of pixilation, it is a very unique and creative piece of work.
This music video is made up of roughly around 3225 still images to capture the full 3 minutes 30 seconds. This gives it a very fast frame rate giving it a smooth finish. This is a result of a very well planned stop motion, they spent 4 weeks pre paring and storyboarding using 3D dummies for the characters. This was all shot from a still birds eye view camera. It has a clear storyline of a woman going into her imagination and exploring. This was very cleverly done, using bed sheets from Orens own room. The target audience is for primary the fans of the music and people around 16 - 30 but I think this would capture anyones attention as it's so great to watch and entertaining. It creates a clear illusion of movement like the pioneers of stop motion like Will O'Brien. Each image is captured and played back to us at a fast rate. I think this would influence people to use stop motion in their advert, this is a new way and unusual.
Cinema
One of the most successful stop motion franchise of all time, Wallace and Gromit. This is a class example of Aardman Animations work. The Curse of the Were-Rabbit was one of their films that did very well.Aardman Animations are one of the currently of of the best present animators. The work they do is aimed at younger people ages around 6 - 13. This is emphasised by the simple storylines that are easy to follow and the light comedy. They had been influenced by Ray Harryhausen and Willis O'Brien using clay models that are miniature sized. I think this will continue to influence people as Wallace and Gromit have become iconic for this generation creating illusion of movement with models. They do this by taking still pictures, around 25-30 per second, for each frame they move the models slightly.
Games
Stop motion is also used in computer and video games. It was was started a long time ago and has been used ever since. It is not as popular now as people are looking for best graphic. Snake originated back in 1970s and has been very popular since then. It is now seen as one of the classics.
This is a very simple game that is played on mobile phones. It creates an illusion of movement by showing frame by frame and as each frame changes the snake moves forward, it uses a slower frame rate then usual in other formats such as advertising or cinema. This gives it a jumpy and retro feel to it, it seems unprofessional but that isn't the principle of it. It was originally targeted at people around 20 - 30 using mobile phones but as it got older, younger and younger people liked it. It is a now a game target at anyone from age 7 - 30. It is easy to play and enjoyable. It has influenced people to improve the game, adding better graphics and levels. This is an iconic game that used stop motion animation.
Experimental and Artistic Work
Nokia in 2011 did a stop motion advert on the beach all shot on an Nokia N8 mobile phone. This is very experimental and unique. It is also artistic as is done on the beach and lots of the images are made from the sand. Also using the sea very artistic way never seen before.
The boat used was a real size boat used on a the beach. The pictures and words onscreen was all made from scratching into the sand. Behind the making of this was Sumo Science and Aardman Animations. This shows how Aardman Animations have influenced people to be as creative as possible and create something new and unique. This is the largest stop-motion animation using around 11,000 square feet of a beach in Wales. What makes it really experimental is the fact it was shot on an 12 megapixel Nokia N8. The 25 images frame rate creates a smooth illusion of movement. This is a great example of how a piece of stop motion has been influenced by a current present animator. Also I think this will encourage people to be more experimental and try work outside the box to create something new and unique.
